How Long Tail SEO Can Build Your Business Online

Long Tail keywords are so important to your online business and how it is found in the search engines. If your business has been struggling to be found online, this may be something you want to look into. While you may think that you need to be page one for your main business terms, what you are missing is that it is normally much more difficult to rank at the top of the rankings for these high competition keywords. The Long Tail

However, if you focus on long tail keywords in your site, you will find yourself having a much easier time getting to page one of Google as the competition is normally much less. So, as I shared in the video, if AppliancePartsPros.com focused only on the keyword "appliance parts" in their site SEO strategy, there is a good possibility they would not have had my business the other day. But, because they took the time and wrote content about a specific part as small and inexpensive as it may be, it brought them in a new customer.

As a new customer that had an exceptional experience, I know that if I ever need another part for a small appliance, I know where I will start my search. I also know that whenever I hear someone mention needing a small appliance part, that I will send them over to their site. My guess is that it probably took them a few hours of writing on the specific part & model number to gain page one rankings on Google for the keyword. So in terms of investment, I would say the return has been great.

So, if you are trying to figure out ways to help your business online, maybe it is time to start writing about long tail keywords and let others fight over the highly competitive ones. If you are not sure how to implement this type of strategy into your business, let's schedule a personal coaching session today to discuss this further for your business.

JB, nice analogy to prove your point on long tail search.

Though one word Google Search for part id would have been enough - being more specific is always better.

More often than not I work with buyers who start with few towns, forget about a specific area (yes, I did work with few buyers who only wanted a home in specific complex only).

(And by no means, I do not underestimate the power of long tail search, Jeremy.)

Thanks Praful for your comment!  What I've found is those starting with the more wide or common keywords are normally not as motivated in their search and are just beginning so they want to see everything everywhere.  Once they start getting more serious, they get more specific.

Thanks for the helpful tip. Now, as soon as I can figure out how to use the tip, I'll be a happy camper.

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for the reminder, hearing about the long-tail that when I first joined AR late 2006. Yet for some reason I think I've gotten awasy from using it often enough, I guess trying to be too much to too many.

You are right! Since real estate is local, it is important to know there are ways for iindividual agents to be competitive (in Google's eyes) on the web with others that spend MEGA bucks on marketing. Thanks.

Jeremy ~ Thanks for the "specific" information needed for long tail keywords for SEO ~ It was the best Ah Ha moment of the day!!

Posted by Frank & Karen Baker ® Sunset Beach N/C Brunswick County N/C & Horry County S/C (910.612.1931 www.sunsetbeachandbeyond.com) 8 months ago

Jon- Think local with your real estate.  Instead of talking about homes in terms of county or city, think of them in terms of subdivisions or neighborhoods and write on those smaller areas.

Lynda- unfortunately we try to go to big sometimes and it hurts the quality of what leads we generate.

Exactly Ken!

Hehe Thanks Frank & Karen!

Jeremy....Great timing as I'm getting ready to write several articles for my website.  NOW I think I'm going to focus on niche/smaller topic vs a broad Home Staging general topics.  THANKS!

I was so happy to see you had posted! I know that when you do it will be something I need to listen to and take action. And you did not fail. I am a little green on long tail key words and I do understand I need to use them but when I get to it I find myself at a loss.

I guess the deal is that I am afraid that I will make the big G mad at me if I constantly use the same info but this video set me a little straighter... I am gonna give it a try.

Thanks dude!

Jeremy, I'm getting better at this but can always use the extra help. I'll focus on it hard in tomorrow's post.

Still pondering what works for long tail. A former client of mine who runs a large scale internet marketing company (think Nike) gave me an example "4 bedroom houses in St. Charles with red front doors". But I'm pretty sure people don't do four criteria long tail. It's about getting the 2, 3 or 4 criteria right, and you need pretty significant reach to test and verify -- beyond the scope of most individual agents and their sites.

Jeremy, I also thought that blender part was called something to make it spin around. Thanks for the reminders/tips about long tail SEO. Very, very helpful.

Posted by Eric Michael, CDPE -Real Estate & Short Sale Professional 734.564.1519 (Remerica Integrity, Realtors®, Northville, MI) 8 months ago

Leslie, that might be a little extreme.  You may want to focus on things like neighborhoods or subdivisions.  People are searching for those types of things regularly.  Think of it like doing postcard farming.

Glad it could help you out Eric!

Great post Jeremy! For me i mix both, specific and long tail keywords, being on page one is not impossible but it will take time a lot of effort.

Jeremy I have to say that long tail searches are the main way people find me.  Emphasizing "Seattle Home Inspector" just lumps me with 300 other inspectors doing the same thing.  I am finding people are searching those terms but adding something to it for example or just asking any question about some house related issue that I have blogged about.  It works for sure.  You don't have to be on the first page of google for your "desired" keywords to get found.

I'm getting better and better at writing articles that use the right combination of long-tail terms and keywords.  Some of my recent articles have gotten well over a thousand hits in a few days using the right combination of words.  Keep up the great advice.  You're one smart guy.

Jeremy, I finally GOT what the longtail is a few weeks ago. So, then I ended up following my own longtail by trying the key words and I guess I just fell into it by hard work. I have bookmarked this and I want to thank you for the information. The more I can learn the better!

Hugs,

deb

Hi Jeremy!  WOW!  Great FREE SEO information that most SEO 'experts' charge WAY too much money for here!  I do use both (long- and short-tail) and since I've been doing it for so long in a HIGHLY competitive market, I've found success with both.  However, BY FAR, the longtails do the trick the best.

OH and the way that I found this out (what is working) is not only by asking those who phone me for help but, by spending time in Google Analytics to determine what's working and what's not.  Utilization of Analytics is imperative, as I'm sure you preach to your clients.

And your postcard comment, SPOT-ON!  Funny how it's as simple as that, isn't it?!!

Great video and great ideas for ways to implement this tactic into real estate marketing. May I ask what program you used to put your video together. The quality is excellent, it's so crisp and clear. Or maybe it's so clear because of the video camera you used?
