Call Phones from Gmail - Now We're Talking!
This is great news folks. The "Inside of the Internet World" just keeps on pushing and reaching out to connect with the "Outside World" and today, there's a new break-through demonstrating this very point. Call phones from Gmail, I'm doing it right now as I write this. Anyone care to guess who I'm talking to? Maybe some bonus points? haha, just kidding... the real point is that Gmail users (and those who will become Gmail users now) will love and benefit from this great new feature.
Who ever thought we'd be "calling" someone from our "Email" box. Cool~

BTW - here's a link to their Blog where I gathered this new information fer ya all today! :-)

I guess it's bye bye Skype?
Amazing. And, just when I was getting email down... oh wait, I there is still more to learn? I guess that I will be further in the stone ages with this one!
Saw that in my gmail account. I just activated it, thanks!
Thanks for the heads up Brad, Will have to try it.
The next time they make that cartoon there will be days instead of years between the changes in technology.
Gloria
That is amazing Buck Rodges Brad Andersohn. How long is the current life of a new technology anyway? Is it long enough to get used to using it before it's replacement shows up?
Steve
Brad...calling from GMail account---GMail is my 'fun' account & I do find it easy to navigate, so-o-o- who knows. Thanks for the heads up here in the Rain. did see a 'new' item on GMail, but did not go there. You did that leg work & now I know.
Barb
Note to self: Sell all shares of Skype immediately!
Is there anything those Google guys aren't into? What can they possibly be cooking up next?
Brad- just read about it today on my "Official Google Blog". Just when I had my new Droid X figured out, and my Gmail organized, something new for me to try. ..... LUV it!
Brad, they need to quit coming out with his stuff for us ole guys that are too old to learn.
I like it I like it I like it I like it ... I LOVE IT!
I wouldn't get rid of Skype just yet. Google says the calls are free for the rest of the year. I'll wait to see what next year brings. However, I must say, they have never disappointed me in the past.
I'm looking forward to playing with this. But I am a little concerned about how dependent I've become on Google to run my business! Gmail, Google Voice, the tight integration of Google products on my phone running Android. I use to sneer at people who were Apple everything and now I find myself in a similar situation with Google!
What will Google do next? Seems they're expanding into several markets and upsetting the status quo!
Technology is changing so fast anymore that you can't keep up.
This is fantastic. As my mother used to say, "What wil they think of next?"
How amazing! What will technology look like in ten years?
So how does it work? How do I sign up? I am IN!
What will they think of next?
Google has come out with some fantastic tools for the real estate market. How about Google Brokerage virtual?
Maybe the end of the landline.. FINALLY!

Brad - This news is so exciting to Americans who love to use various Google Tools. Americans will be able to call Canadians via Gmail but not the other way around.
We've been using it and it's great...kudos on your video!
Larry & Sheila, Long Island NY
Pretty hot news all over the Internet. I can't wait to give it a try.
Todd - I can't believe you changed your AR profile photo, I will never recognize you now without that "home" plate! :-)
Hey everyone, thanks for all the comments and responses....
Jane - skype is here to stay.
Lindsey - always more to learn, always room to grow.
Gloria - that's the truth!
Steve - the life of a new technology these days can be hard to determine, I think Google does pretty good in this dept. though.
Barb - I think you're gonna like it.
Craig - DON'T DO IT! :-)
Lorrie - check out the Google Lags for the stuff their cooking up to be released shortly....
Kathy - that's where I saw this too. Love your new photo by the way.
Ted - you're never too old, and if they stopped, you'd age even quicker... keep that noodle "active" my friend.
Geri - Only time will tell. I doubt they'll charge, many said they'd charge for email too and it's been years now..
Gordon - that's funny. I know what you mean. Take a look at the post I did "Top 50 Google Tools for your Business!"
Drew - they're just healthy competition.
Damon - that's why you have me here. lol~
Sharon - great question, scary thought!
Paula - just go to http://gmail.com/call and click the BIG BLUE Button. :-))
Harry - Is there a Google Brokerage for Virtual? Off to "Google" that now...
How neat....
I noticed this pop up in my email yesterday but I have used Skype for years. I wonder if it is any better.
being a skpe user i am going to have to do some comparing on this one,
Thanks for the informative content !
Google will rule the earth one day... very cool. But now I have to keep a headset handy..... I dont have a microphone in my laptop.... or a webcam for that matter, that is a plus though, LOL.
What will they invade next? The nice thing is they usually do, what they do, better than how it was done, by the competition. Will Skype sue?
Brad, you are always on the pulse of the lastest tech/whiz bang stuff...thanks for keeping us all updated...this looks way cool!
First - I'm not stupid- really I'm not -- but please tell me why I'd call someone from my computer and not just use my cell phone. I want a practical application.
Land lines are here only for an emergency since they don't electricity to run.... unless you have a wireless land line.
Susan - convenience and $$$$ play a significant role for some I'm sure. Great question... :-)
Brad, amazing and thank you for the blog, I'm trying it out this morning.
Ty
Brad, this is only available from the U.S. at the moment. I am vacationing in Ireland for 2 weeks in September and I thought, aha!
Oh well, I'll wait till it gets here in Canada!
Ty
Before we know it...It will be bye-bye G-mail calls. I'm waiting for virtual holograms to originate...
Brad - Saw this come up the other day in my GMail account but hadn't explored yet... Will do now though... Thanks for the reminder and gee this is pretty cool stuff by the looks of it...
Hi Brad...mmm, lets see Google has a very fast cell phone, voice mail, call forwarding, word and spread sheet web base software, email, etc.....bye bye Microsoft and Apple ?
ohhhhhhhhh that is way cool! i love my google accounts.
Happy Birthday...hope you had a wonderful time with your lucky family.
Margaret
Brad..Pretty Cool..Who would have ever thunk??? AMAZING !!! Thanks for the info !!!
HelpfulHannah
So, just how do you keep on top of all this information? You're always a great source of information and thank you for sharing with us all.
Thanks for the post.
Lots of excited response.
I'm not sure how I would use it, but it is interesting non the less
Phil
Sorry for not responding sooner guys, I've been on the road traveling this week. Thanks for the comments and for checking this out. I just used it again a few minutes ago to call someone I know in NY. It works great!! :-)
Thanks Brad, It was a matter of time gmail took over as did 'Google" Happy to jump on board!
Another fun tool! Yipee!
Brad, I believe I saw this info a couple of days ago. Thanks for sharing!
Brad Life just keeps getting better especially when it is free - thank you
this is really great! I am going to try it out right now and let everybody I know learn about it too!!!
I love my gmail - guess I'd better check this out too! Love the docbox for easy storage - guess we'll see where Google takes us next!
Just TOTALLY converted all my cal, email and docs over to Google Apps last week so I'm totally loving all the new features that work perfectly with my iPhone and (no more double entries YEAH!) but have not statred using the gmail call feature. Guess I'll get her up and running now.
Every time those Google folks generate a new product, I say "What will they think of next?" I am continually surprised.
Brad, I too LOVE this new feature. I used it all day yesterday and had ZERO issues with it. I may actually be able to reduce the minutes on my cell phone. I pay about $350 a month for cell service. I don't have a land land. I can see a substantial savings in my near future.
Oh my gosh...this is really really cool! You know how tech challenged I am and this seems easy for me, lol. When I was at Inman I drove around Googleville. I couldn't believe how BIG they are. Talk about sprawl. Wow! They even have Google colored bikes for employees to ride around Googleville in, Goggle colored umbrellas in their patio areas and so much more. Google is simply incredible.
If I haven't told you in a while, I think the world of you, FYI :) I hope you are doing well and I missed seeing you at Raincamp :( You are the "dude" for sure!
Maybe I should start a Brad Andersohn fan club?
When 760-705-8888 appears on your caller ID, this is incoming from Gmail.
it's love at first ring...
sweeeeeeeeeeeet
i've got gmail and a google voice
the FREE just keeps getting better
I love good free stuff. I'm going to my google account and check this out.
Brad:
Who can keep up!
Richard
This is awesome...love it!!! Thanks for keeping us updated, I've re-blogged.
Brad - I tried this yestday, and it worked great. The only thing that might confuse people Is the area code. I wonder how the government will find a way to tax this.
This is something different, but I wonder at the practical applications as more and more people have cell phones.
Hey man, I always enjoy your new and innovative finds that help make our lives easier and often aa lot of fun and I will be checking this out! I was thinking of you today as I made a couple of batches of salsa for the annual hot sauce festival here in Austin tomorrow! I hope all is well with you, your family and Armored Flight!
What a great idea. Will try it ASAP
I have a Gmail account but am still using Hotmail. Any good tips about Hotmail?
I noticed the phone icon on my Google account Saturday and downloaded it. Seems like I'll be saying bye-bye to Vonage.
Really easy to setup and use right from your gmail account. I love it! :-)
Brad, BB is definitely on to something. Our cell phone bills run over $350 as well. We ditched our land line years ago - now have Magic Jack for a 'home phone' in case we want to send a fax. $20 a year ($40 first year because you have to buy the device).
Great, thanks for the info.
Brad, I saw this the other day & thought how quickly technology is flying by me! LOL. I have to check it out.
I'm with Todd... the end of "land line" FINALLY... In fact I'm calling Comcast tomorrow! My land line is the most expensive call screener I've ever owned.... DONE...
The only reason I still have a land line in my home office is because AT&T requires us to for our TV and Internet service, otherwise I'd do away with it as well. I am finding this new feature easy, convenient, and very inexpensive to use. Pennys saved each day is dollars saved over time, that's just a good business decision. :-)
