No more fans on Facebook, just "likes and interests". Your fan page is now called an “Official Page” and your fans will be friends who go to a page and click on the like button to like the page. This change was introduced with the new Facebook Connections settings.

Facebook’s changes are promoting consistent features across the site and to make connecting with your brand a bit less intimidating.
- Instead of becoming a raving fan, people will be able to connect with you by just stating they like your page.
- Your Official page will be listed on the “Likes and Interests” section of their profile.
- The person who likes your page will be displayed on your page saying they liked your Official Page.
- Your Official Page’s posts will be displayed on their newsfeed.
To like an Official Page, users need to go to the page and click on the Like Button to say they like the page. If a friend sees on their newsfeed that you liked a particular page, they cannot click like to connect to the page directly.
Liking a page is different than liking a status update, picture, link, video or any other piece of content shared on Facebook.
I love this change. Do you? Would you go and see if you like my page? ;)

Elayna,
Thanks for the heads up information. I was working on getting a fan page myself by just have not found the time to get it done. I'll definitely bookmark this page to use later
I was gonna like it Elayna but the link didnt take me to your page?
Thank you, dear Lloyd, for bookmarking!
Hi Larry, it works for me... here it is http://facebook.com/positivemom
Hi Elayna, That you for the update, otherwise I would have missed it. I will go test it. Dan
Been a facebook user for years. I must admit the wholesale changes they make become frustrating.
I had heard about this change. I have not had time to explore it.
I think changes have made facebook a better tool for marketers and small business owners/independent professionals. It continues to evolve from child's play to the ultimate marketing tool and thus it continues to grow exponentially.
Enjoy!!!
Hi Elayna, Thanks for the post.
I was on FB earlier this evening and had no idea this was on the way. I think they could announce their changes better.
I like your social buttons styles, they are nice and clean to read and understand. I think it is time to upgrade my own.
Elayna:
Actually, I don't like this change at all. Nothing's broke, so why fix it? Does anybody ever feel intimidated to be a "fan" of a page? Are these the same people who jump at their own shadow?
What I really want is a "dislike" button, and also the ability to hide certain types of posts without hiding everything from that person!
Elayna - Thanks for the "heads up"...bookmarked. Was going to set up a fan page but will first review your info. ~ Thanks again, Doug
Hi Elayna - I was already a Fan of your page (and your AR blog), so of course I like it! I also like seeing which of my friends like a particular page; that provides another level to connect on.
I think this change will be more confusing than anything-at least in the near term. What I know I dont like is the restriction on seeing who all my fans, oops...I mean Likes are. Depending on the day, Yesterday I couldnt see all of my fans, today I could)... Before I could see alll of my fans, now I cannot, this does not seem like an upgrade to me. I guess we will ahve to wait and see.

Changes, changes, and more changes not just on Facebook! Sometimes it can just plain ole get frustrating once you think you have something figured out, it changes again.
Thanks for the head up.
Sue of Robin and Sue
I am neutral on the change. If it makes for a better marketing, then I say embrace change!!!
Elayna,
Thanks for the info. Facebook is taking one more step towards being an open network in my opinion.
Mike
Elayna, I hate it for this reason....
You cannot see ALL of the people who LIKED your page. This also means you cannot send each person an individual message either. I used to go through and send a personal note to each person thanking them for being a fan and asking them to also suggest the page to their friends. This is a major reason how I was able to get one page to 1500 fans and the other to 1000 in only one month. Now this is gone.
Hi Elayna: Thanks for the great information. Sometimes it can be difficult navigating through facebook since they are changing things all the time.
This is interesting info. I noticed the change, but since I didn't have a fan page, didn't know the impact. Thanks for the post.
I noticed the changes on my page yesterday - we'll see how it works!
Elayna...
That's an interesting change ... I always wondered about the "fan" thing!
Thanks for the info Elayna, I hadn't heard of this and will check out to see how it's working.
I heard about this too but have not looked any deeper..now I will. thanks
This what I love about AR !!!! We are not only kept up to date but usually ahead of the curve !!!
I hadn't heard about this change yet. Thanks for sharing the info.
I like you page and just clicked on the like button to say so. Or as Frank Burns said in the TV Mash show, "It's nice to be nice to the nice".
For once, I actually like this facebook change. It makes it easier to connect with people.
For once, I actually like this facebook change. It makes it easier to connect with people.
Please post this to the Facebook Tips group!
I love social media... yet a lot of networks like Facebook remind me of Saturday morning TV. I like this change. It's makes things a little more mature and I don't have to 'fan up' to connect. It implies room for growth and relationship. Fan, I'm a little uncomfortable with sometimes. Where do you go after fan, raving fan, adoring fan? I like what you do, let's leave it at that. I'll be a fan if I choose to keep showing up on your page because I like what you put there, right? ;0)
I don't see why there need to be a change to the fan page in FaceBook. I think it will be confusing to most and you can't see who is a part of your fan page.
Indeed, Official Page projects a more professional image than Fan Page. Thank you for highlighting this change.
From social networking to social business networking. Feels like they are working their way to a hybrid. So, how do you make it work for you?
There didn't seem anything wroung with the way it was. How does that affect the fans we already have from our business page, are they still fans? or do they now have to go back at some time and click that they like it?
Hi Elayna, Thanks for the information! I will have to check out the changes.
Great post and information, thanks!!!
Thanks, I am still getting my head around havin a fan page/Official page...
I dislike the "liking" and not "becoming a fan". I think users should have control and now they don't.
I'm neutral on this change right now. I see no added benefit to this change, at least not yet. I have seen no announcement that fan pages are now called Official pages, can you tell me where you saw that? I have 3 pages, which one is my OFFICIAL official page?? I didn't particularly like it when they were called fan pages, either. It's a Business Page, and that's what it should be referred to, IMHO. "Fan Page" made it sound too much like a buch of groupies following a rock star or something! Also, I can "like" a page (or anything else, for that matter) without necessarily being a "fan" of a page. I think the distinction may be minor, but should be considered nonetheless. I suppose time will tell if this change is a good one or not.
Thanks for sharing. See you on Facebook!
Elayna, thanks for the heads up. I just created a page so I guess its better to make changes now.
Parking to see where this goes. I'm of the mind that it was an unnecessary change, even though I will concede that "Official" sounds more professional than "Fan".
Elayna,
Thanks for the update on Facebook. It is wonderful to have people on AR to bring the latest and greatest.
I can live with it. Do you know how to create a fan page though?
Elayna, thank you for the update! I'm not a big "fan" of FB but learning how to use it more.
thanks for the update and I will check it out
Thanks goodness for this news. I was getting tired of people inviting be to become their fan lol!
I wonder why a friend cannot click on the liked page. What if they would like it also? That does not make sense to me.
Wow. Have a change even before I made my fan page public.
I just 'fanned' - I mean "liked" someone today on Facebook and noticed the change. I do like the way it displays better.
Thank you! I was not aware of this. Looks like not many people are happy about it. We'll see.
Thanks for the update! Its always good to up and in the know!
A fan page was on my to do list.....so now I guess a "like" page is on my to do list!
Very helpful information because I still find myself trying to get a better working grasp of the whole facebook thing. I have a full page set up, but still have not figured out the best way to get it work as a tool in my business.
I'm torn... but overall I think it will be cool. I also like the name change to "Official Page" rather than "Fan Page"...
Elayna - Thanks for the update. FB changes so quickly these days that my menopausal brain is having trouble keeping up! I appreciate the explanation! :)
I appreciate the update. I had not heard about this change on FaceBook yet.
It's about time. Fan page didn't sound very professional. I will head over and see what it looks like now. Thanks for the info.
Actually after getting bombarded with hundreds of requests to be fans of this and fans of that has really turned me off to facebook.
There is no doubt it is a great social networking tool........but their applications are annoying and yes I turned most if not all off....
I have heard from old friends and family from decades gone by........it is always good to catch up on lives and happenings....
I still post and poke ..
I am more interested in what is going on with people than the applications...i guess to each their own...
Great information, you have got it going on, you are right on thr money.
Nice page, how do you recommend that I get a whole bunch of local people to like my page?
Every month, FB seems to become a more essential piece of the marketing puzzle -- and the stats seem to confirm this. FB Official Pages can generate leads, revenue, and strengthen customer loyalty. So thanks for this important update! I mostly see the upsides, although I'm guessing that by making it easier for people to Like pages, it will also mean that we'll be 'competing' with a lot more pages in our friends Interests sections. But that's okay, it just means will have to be more diligent about making our Pages unique and valuable for viewers!
Hey Elayna,
Thanks for the post, I will ahve to check out your information and blog. I appreciate your post and am always looking for quality information. Thanks
Elayna,
Excellent post. This is news to me. As a regular to facebook, I will use this immediately. Hope to read more great information soon.
Yea, now maybe we can spend that time working FSBOs and getting real business right.
Wow! I did not receive an update of your comments so I joined the party kind of late. I know Facebook is a waste of time to many, but so is e-mail or the phone if you don't use it right. If you go on it with a goal (or two or three) in mind, you can be sure you will be building valuable relationships and generating qualified leads.
This change is very valuable because the more FANS aka CONNECTIONS you have, the more people you communicate with. Yes, you can see who likes your page, and better yet, you can send updates and receive information as to the metrics of your page interactions. People won't give you their e-mail and "becoming a fan" was truly endorsing your brand, but "liking" it is more casual, laid back, if you will.
I look forward to connecting on Facebook and THANK YOU for liking my page! Have a POWERFUL weekend!
Thanks for the update. I had heard about the change, but I'm not ready to spend time on Facebook yet. I have a page but have more work to do before delving into that project.
Well, Bill, let me know when you are ready so I may help you make sure you dive into it safely and with an action plan towards achieving success and profits.
Have a powerful day!
Thanks for the great information, always useful and well presented, thanks again
