I am watching The TodayShow and one of the places they are at the Statue of Liberty. As many of you know that she has been closed since 9/11. But it seems that she will be opening up again.
Please tell me this is true. I remember going there on school trips. I have been back to NY several times and wanted to take the kids there. But you were not able to climb up to the crown.
Well as it is now announced the Statues Crown will now be open as of July 4. What a day to choose the same day she has in her hands. How amazing is that?!?!
I am so happy to hear this. And I will be there at the end of July and will be making a speacial trip to see her! Yeah She is open again!

I guess I am a little ,maybe a bunch, older than you. I have been into the crown as a kid. Often road the ferry to Staten Island and passed this wonderful site. I hope you are right I will have to look it up. Have a great day and thanks foas a memory

Charlie They just announced it this morning! I was so happy to hear it. The todayshow was in the Crown this morning and the secertary and it was announeced as of July 4.
Konnie Yes it was closed after 9/11 for her safety.
I remember the first time I realized that in my mind she had always been a big whitish grayish statue and when I saw her live and in person was amazed she was green...must have been "in the day" when color photography was the unusual rather than usual....glad she is UP and not running anywhere...and a part of our landscape, heritage and national treasure.

Don't laugh..I've never been to NY but then again you know that..I think just seeing the Statue up close and personal would make me ooze with emotion! You have to use your flip for that .

It took a long time to re-open the crown. Hopefuly there will be good security there.

It was sad that she had to be closed- like so m any changes in our modern life -we have to go forward and this opening is wonderful!

Jeannette, I've never gone to New York - it's on my to do list. I want to see the stately lady, and watch the ball drop on New Years.
Have mixed feelings about this -- it is nice to see -- but we do not want any crazies going there and doing harm.
This would be a great thing for out country to get back! This country shouldn't be shut down out of fear and we need to get back to our daily lives and it has been way to many years.
