Club Chaos Agents - All Things Hollish, Wacked, and Jacked

Photos from West Hollywood

I attended a conference of sorts titled An Afternoon in Los Angeles, which was put on by About.com.  Because About.com is a profit-making vehicle for the New York Times, it treats all of its writers pretty well. First, we had lunch in a private garden at the Sunset Marquis Hotel. Glorious sunshine and no wind. Perfect weather.

Then we had a 3-hour session with our editors and a lively discussion with other writers during a couple of workshops. We brainstormed. Discussed what our readers want to find at our particular sites. I do the home buying and home selling website for About.com and have been writing articles / blogs for this site for 5 years. This is in addition to my services to the Sacramento community as a Sacramento short sale agent.

To my astonishment, part of the presentation centered on how I expanded my home buying and home selling website by writing articles about short sales. I wrote my first article in early 2006. This wasn't based on SEO results or AdWords but composed simply because I spotted a need on the horizon for this information. Today, I have written more than 65 articles about short sales, including a book, The Short Sale Savior, and Google recognizes my site as an expert source for short sales.

My husband, on the other hand, shot some fabulous photos, which I'm pleased to share with you. Most of these are in West Hollywood, where we are staying. The last photo, well, it sort of speaks for itself.

Sometimes, It's Worth It to Pay a Little Extra

appetizer trio truffle, foie gras, crabUsually when we fly out of the Sacramento airport we park at the economy lot and take the bus to the terminal. This involves planning ahead and allotting enough time for driving up and down the aisles looking for parking spots in the aisles we were told had parking spots and which do not, lugging my suitcase across gravel because we've finally parked on the outskirts somewhere, and then shivering at the bus stop as we wait for the bus that takes forever to arrive.

The economy parking lot at the Sacramento airport is not a pleasant experience. For that reason, I decided to splurge a little on this trip and park in the garage. I sell Sacramento short sales and, in exchange for that abuse, I rationalized to my husband that we should not have to suffer in the economy lot. It was a short walk across the skyway to the second-floor terminal security. The carpeting design depicts an aerial view of the ground, the way it looks from a plane. You can see the squares of farmlands and the Sacramento River winding its way through the Central Valley.

We stripped naked for security check. Open wide, see? No explosives under my tongue. OK, not really but that's the way going through security these days feels. I usually mess up something. Like the day they swiped my Eileen Fisher pin from the front of my sweater and refused to give it back. I really wanted to punch them out. They crossed the line. But I would have missed my flight. This time, the worst thing I did was walk through the X-Ray detector wearing my Jawbone.

We settled into the waiting area. Boarded our plane without incident. It left on time. Landed at LAX about an hour later. Quick stroll to baggage claim and there was our guy, standing there with my name on a sign and a roller cart for our luggage. It costs about $40, maybe $50 with a tip, to take a taxi from LAX to West Hollywood. But, you have to stand in line and wait for one, then battle for it. A town car runs about $125, with tip included.

Plus, they give you bottled water, the seats are extra wide and plush. The driver is in uniform. No cheap aftershave or stinky cigars, or awful smelling air fresheners dangling from the rear-view mirror. Just walk across the street, enter the garage and climb into the car. We took the surface streets to avoid rush hour traffic and arrived at our hotel 25 minutes later.

Just in time for a martini. Followed by an appetizer trio: foie gras, Alaskan king crab and black truffle. Main course: an 8-ounce filet mignon prepared median rare, watercress mashed potatoes, washed down with a blended zinfandel from Napa.

This was all part of my pre-planning. Man, if only I could orchestrate every single one of my short sales to run this smoothly!

Well, off to see what's in store today in La-La Land for this Sacramento short sale agent.
