This is a great question and discussion topic, "Does Feng Shui work?" Feng Shui is something that can not be measured scientifically, but in time probably will be ;) So, the only means of proving that Feng Shui works right now is by trying it, hearing the stories of those who have and putting your beliefs about Feng Shui aside and being open to learning and thinking outside the box. 

The Ancient Art of Feng Shui, literally translated to mean “Wind & Water” has been practiced in various forms throughout the World and is estimated to be between 3,000 to 5,000 Years Old.  Feng Shui seeks to achieve a Balance, Harmony, Peace and Prosperity in your life through simple but effective changes in your Surroundings.

Feng Shui Consultants believe that your Surroundings have a deep and profound impact on your life in all aspects and create an environment that supports your dreams and aspirations by changing the Flow of Energy into a positive one.

As mentioned, much of Feng Shui can be practical but the tradition of Feng Shui is mystical, utilizing cures from Nature and incorporating specific beliefs and habits into your lifestyle.

Here is a simple introduction to the power of Intention ( a basic Feng Shui Principle) and utilizing specific objects to help manifest your intentions while taking action.

Becoming a Common Practice in the State of New York for Feng Shui Consultants to Attend Village and Town Board Meetings

Recently Laura Cerrano of Feng Shui Long Island, Inc. attended a Village Board meeting for her two clients. Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn, the State of New York Villages and Towns, this will become a more common sight and presentation as time progresses.  The demographics of the East Coast are changing.  Majority of of residents are now migrating from the Eastern parts of the world to America. The populations and cultures with the highest influence are individuals and families from China and India.

With the migration comes the beliefs, teaching and inspiration of these cultures, which many follow the principles of Feng Shui and/or Vastu (India's version of Feng Shui).  It would be wise for New York State, the villages and towns to become familiar with at least the basic teachings of this lifestyle and recognize the specific reasoning for why exact changes are requested for the land and/or interior for those living at their given location.

In the state of California, Feng Shui consultants are always collaborating with architects, landscape designers, Realtor's and other interior designers because the State has recognized the imprtance and positive impact Feng Shui has on majority of the residents living there. They have also seen and experienced the increase of ecomnical growth Feng Shui has had for home owners and the rest of the towns, villages, neighborhoods and for the overall State. California has gained a great understanding of how Feng Shui is utilized to achieve a Balanced, Peaceful and Prosperous life through simple but effective changes in the Surroundings and I hope New York State, being very progressive will do the same.

Feng Shui Exercise to challenge your body, mind and soul by Feng Shui Long Island Practitioner

How many times do you say, "I'll get to that later." If this is you, now is the time to change that thought pattern. This week challenge yourself by putting that goal or task you've been meaning to achieve last month, week or days ago as part of your must do list.  Even if you do not officially complete that goal by the end of this week, you are setting in motion the necessary energy to help you meet your goal. 

So take a moment, think about what needs to be achieved this week and "Don't just talk about it, be about it."

Chucky Surprise! by Feng Shui Long Island

During my visits to various client's homes and apartments I come across some pretty interesting sonorous and situations.  Sometimes they are serious or not and at times just strange and funny.  So, this was one of those strange and funny moments.  While preforming a Feng Shui home Assessment in Harbor Acres NY I entered into the dining room and as I reached to turn on the light, I stopped.  I took a second look at the light switch and started laughing. 

This is scary, every time you turn on the light Chucky appears!

The previous owners thought it was a great idea to place "Chucky" the killer doll as a preferred decorative light switch cover.  The new owner agreed with me right away to let go of this cover.  She said as soon her daughter saw that she told her, "mom this has to go." Taking a walk through the rest of the space, this theme of horror movie characters continued on. We have vampires, zombies and the list goes on.

If you are looking to create a peaceful and harmonious feeling home, having horror scenes around your home as decorations is not Feng Shui recommended, unless you work for movie magic. Again there are always exceptions.  But in general it's not really a great suggestion :)

To honor them and their family members I have recently teamed up with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training for the Grand Canyon Hike for a cure in May of 2012.

I have a mission-to help find cures and more effective treatments for blood cancers. To accomplish that mission, I’m participating in a sports endurance event as a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. Like the other members of TNT, I will be raising funds to help find cures and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. I’m improving the quality of my life by participating and with your support; I can help improve the quality of life for patients and their families as well.

At no set amount, Ms. Cerrano asks for your help and if you can please make a donation in support of her efforts with Team In Training and help advance the research for cures. You can donate $10, $15, $20 or up, it's what you feel comfortable with.

Chinese New Year is January 23, 2012! Feng Shui Tips for how to prepare by Laura Cerrano

It is time to get ready for the Chinese New Year which takes place on January 23, 2012.  This is the year of the most powerful animal in the Chinese Zodiac, the year of The Dragon.  The Dragon is highly revered and respected in the Chinese culture.  It is a mystical creature created by various animals such as the tiger, fish, snake and eagle which gives it magnificent power to accomplish a great deal.  The Dragon is powerful, energetic, generous, wise, sensitive, honest, but be aware also short tempered and at times unpredictable. 

The year of the Dragon is a time to welcome longevity, wealth and prosperity and to release any negative energy from the past. Also be mindful this year brings, excitement, unpredictability, exhilaration and intensity. During this time many are in the mode of "Go for it!" but, be wise with the decisions you make.  Do not through all your commonsense out the window, for you may find yourself in unnecessary situations.  Be open to change knowing it is always for the better and Go with the flow.  This is a year to work hard and manifest your goals.

1. As the Dragon says, clear out the past.  Delcutter your home, offices and anyplace that you have occupied this year.  If you don't USE it, NEED it or, LOVE it, get rid of it.  By doing this, you lighten up the energy of your home and mind. Release the old and allow new, fresh and beneficial energy to enter into your life. Be sure to declutter the basement and if you can the attic as well.  Objects do carry energy, so as you sort them, do they represent good fortune of the past year and offer you positive memories or should they be released because they hold negative or sad content.  

2. Give your home a "Deep Cleaning or cleansing".  Dust away the cobwebs from your home and office spaces...and dust off your mind.  Positive thinking never hurt anyone.  Turn something around in your mind until you can find the POSITIVE-and keep it there.  Like attracts Like.  We get back what we send out.  Send out the best.

Extra tip: When cleaning be sure to start your cleaning from the front of your home to the back.  Sweep away negativity gathered from last year.  If you sweep from back to front, you risk sweeping away good fortune.

Attention to detail goes a long way. Look inside your refrigerator, get RID of old food and restock to start your New Year with Abundance.  BUY SOME COLORFUL FRESH FRUIT as another sign of abundance and place it on your kitchen or dining room table.  With Intention

4. Purchase those Red Envelopes. These red envelopes symbolize luck and are to be filled with brand new one dollar bills which represent an abundance of wealth for the upcoming year.  Traditionally, they are given to the younger generations but, are also passed to close neighbors and friends.  How much money to put in each? I suggest eight or nine dollar bills, because in Feng Shui they are Lucky Numbers. This is also the time to write down your intentions before the next tip on how to prepare for the New Year.

5. Preform a Space Clearing for your home and business.  Native American White Sage is a great way to bless your home before the Chinese New Year. Do everything with INTENTION on what you'd like to attract this year.  Space Clearings should ONLY be done during the day, when the sun is at its highest point---between 11:00 am to 1:00 if possible.  Never at night.  Make sure you address the corners where Energy can get ‘stuck' or linger. All levels of your home should be cleared, basement, attic and even closets.

6.  Pay off whatever credit cards or other bills if possible.  The extra amount is not as important as the idea that you are creating a Debt Free year and starting it off with as little debt as possible.

7. Welcome the New Year with beautiful Fresh flowers :) Take the time to hand pick them from your local florist and place them in a vaze.  flowers are symbol of abundance and new life energy.

8. Treat yourself kindly.  Take some time out to do something special for yourself.   When we treat ourselves well, it is said others will treat us well, too!  Maybe it's a manicure or that special outfit you've been wanting; maybe it's just taking home a movie you have wanted to see.  YOU are Special....treat yourself that way :)
